Daher said HomeSafe has been approved by the FAA and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency. HomeSafe is under validation by Daher’s avionics team and flight test department for application on the TBM 940 and will be available when certified by the airworthiness authorities, according to company officials. Daher unveiled its model year 2020 TBM 940 single-engine turboprop on Wednesday along with introducing the company’s new HomeSafe emergency autoland system.

Daher last week announced its HomeSafe system, an iteration of Garmin’s emergency Autoland system, was certified on the TBM 940 by both the FAA and EASA. With this advisory automatic ice protection systems, the pilot is assisted in detecting icing conditions or accumulation.A new optional extended large storage cabinet optimizes the storage space behind the left pilot seat.

This gives improved lighting around the TBM 940 to enhance visibility of the TBM 940 by other aircraft in low-light conditions.Included in the enhanced operational packageHomeSafe™, an emergency autoland system that can guide the aircraft to a landing in the event of pilot incapacitation. For TBM 940s already delivered in 2020, the aircraft will be upgraded at TBM service centers. HomeSafe is “based on Garmin’s Emergency Autoland system—available as a part of the G3000 integrated flight deck—and has been under development for the TBM since 2017 by the airplane systems department at Daher’s Aircraft Division,” the company said.“This is a game-changing step that expands flight safety from pilots to the passengers themselves, and it comes at a time when the value of life is more important than ever,” said Daher Aircraft Division Senior Vice President Nicolas Chabbert. This work included software implementation and an intensive flight test campaign that included two hundred automated landings.Chabbert thanked the airworthiness authorities for their support incertifying HomeSafe™, adding that Daher is thefirst aircraft manufacturer to receive simultaneous dual certification fromEASA and the FAA.HomeSafe™ operates with systems and their functionalityalready integrated on the TBM 940, such as the autopilot and autothrottle, aswell as functions of Daher’s TBM e-Copilot®: Enhanced Stability andProtection (ESP), the Emergency Descent Mode and automated de-icing detection.Inputs from the radar altimeter also are included.Additional equipment incorporated on theTBM 940 for system functionality with HomeSafe™ includes electrical relays to enable automatic activation of the flaps, landinggear and landing lights. All TBM versions are fully certified and available today worldwide – direct.A new way to fly : In addition to an innovative single lever control decreasing the workload for the pilot, the autothrottle improves performance, safety and engine protection.
