The hikes are rewarding. Avoid the Mesquite trail, very soft sad and its covered in fire ants which prevents you from staying stationary for more than a split second. Other than that it was a good time.I had a nice solo morning adventure along three of the short trails: Palm Lake Loop, Lion, and Mesquite Meander. end with the lions head trail and dip your get r into the cool stream.

The map area covers the piedmont between the Palo Verde Hills and the Hassayampa River and a 7 mile (11 km) reach of the Hassayampa River. Enjoyed the "oasis" nature of this trail on a hot, desert day.Easy trails inside this nature preserve; well shaded so is a great stop in a warm area. very refreshing. The Hassayampa River (Yavapai: Hasaya:mvo or ʼHasayamcho:) is an intermittent river, the headwaters of which are just south of Prescott, Arizona, United States, and flows mostly south towards Wickenburg entering the Gila River near Hassayampa, Arizona. A lot of wild life! Did this trail on 06/27/20. One would think it would clear up but the ants have staked their claim to that trail. Nice COVID-19 features in place. Lots of birds, lizards and pretty insects.not a bad little hike.
Names of plants species and guided tours happen which make the place seem so much more interesting.

All are easy and well marked except for the Lyke's Lookout trail, which is moderate and takes you an elevation that overlooks the entire area. The place is surely serene, but did not see any wildlife although plenty of different bird calls were heard along the way.Great hike, and it offers good shade. Design plans may include a nature center, amphitheater, wildlife viewing platforms, new trails, picnic tables along the river, and lake features.The Hassayampa River Preserve is considered to be an oasis in the desert due to its lush vegetation and flowing water, making a home to a variety of wildlife and approximately 300 different bird species. There is a $5 per adult fee and kids get in free.
There were 2 problems with that trail. Tons of educational parts, great for outdoorsy nature people or biology interests.

I came here the day after an 8 mile hike and my feet felt great. Great for families and those would want to explore all trails for a little over 3 mile walk. We enjoy hiking the trails, which are not particularly difficult at all. Though all of the trails add up to only a few miles, it took me hours to meander through as I paused frequently to photograph colorful varieties of birds. Very different foliage for AZ and reminded much of my home state of MIchigan on the trails, worth taking a look.2nd time here. Hassayampa River Preserve is one of our favorite stops in Arizona. Nice little hike up a rock side with great view. Flat, easy. The second problem was that the plank crossing the river (more of a creek, actually) was washed away by recent monsoons and will not be replaced until monsoon season is over. And clear water. The elevation gain is less then 200'. Lots of shade.
